Chipotle Photography

Art Direction  |  Food Photography

Chipotle has built their brand on a single image: the iconic foil-wrapped burrito. While it was a very successful branding strategy while Chipotle was growing as a brand, the company needed more to engage with millennials, who have become our target audience.

Over the past few years, food photography at Chipotle has become huge part of our brand. From shooting beautifully composed ingredients to margaritas cheers-ing, we’ve done types of photoshoots with different scopes and goals. I concepted and art directed various photoshoots in collaboration with many talented photographers including Francesco Tonelli, Vanessa Rees, Beth Galton, and Nat Chitwood. Below are few of my favorites.

When working on photoshoots, I always start by brainstorming concepts that enhance the message of the project. Then I create sketches to think through every layout––from menu panels to social media posts. While planning, I always have to consider the background, angle of the camera, lighting, and props. There’s always some room for on-site changes while collaborating with the photographer and the stylists, but it is always helpful to have a good guideline.
